Good advice Garth. Something is obviously  being a resource hog here. I'd
also turn off any additional services you may be running.

Is this a dual processor machine?

I am running Gnome with enlightenment and Netscape and everything is hunky
dory. Since youre machine is higher spec. then mine I would say that this is
not a hardware issue (but I am running an Intel processor not an AMD)

Have you installed the latest version of vmware and the linux tools that go
with it?
