Other than supporting more cards and hardward configs (ie. more diff sound
cards, modems, ethernet cards, isdn, filesystems (ntfs etc)) not really.
The kernel doesnt have much to do with user friendlyness at all, and
probably never will - thats the end user applications jobs :)
