Well that is sort of true, but an awfule lot of config files do reside in
/etc. And the major problem here is the backward compatibility issue with
lots of Unix systems (of which Linux is a hybrid).
OS design seems to resolve (unfortunately so) more around how to make the
system backward compatible with previous versions/systems and yet still
implement new stuff. There always seems to be some form of compromise hence
you get dodgy OS like 95 where DOS backward compatibilty was more essential
or NT where implementing a full 32 bit OS was important but left out USb,
Plug and play etc.
I do thionk that the registry idea does work quite well in a windows/GUI
envioro and maybe should be implemented in KDE/GNOME. But linux users need
to thrash outb the actuallaties of its implementation rather than just
having it spoeced out for them like some programmer at Redmond.
