Yes. See exports(8) man page, "User ID Mapping". It requires ugidd on
the client. I've never used it.

Are you using XDM? (gui login)  Try .xinitrc, or .xsession 

And i was joking about mounting the whole disk setuid-root.
It must be Bill Gruff's influence.
