Oliver,
Is it a PCI or ISA card?
Do you know how to change the irq, e.g. any jumpers?
What started this problem? New hardware, software upgrade, ...?
Is it intermittant?

Check /proc/interupts, BIOS boot messages, Linux boot messages ("dmsg"
command). Make a list of all your IRQs.
If its an ISA sound card, tell your bios to reserve the desired irq,
and not allocate it to any PnP devices.

As a last resort, Win9x makes a very good hardware diagnostic program.
