To _really_ check your hardware integrity, boot from your emergency
floppy, then configure and make a kernel. If it survives that without a
Sig11 or similar, your core machine is almost certainly OK.

If it passes, try booting from floppy and then re-running LILO from the
live system (as root).

If that gives no errors but still fails to boot, try using the "linear"
keyword in /etc/lilo.conf and re-running LILO.

If that still fails, note that all IO up to the point where the kernel
messages (about bogomips, devices etc) appear is done through the BIOS.
Check for dodgy BIOS settings and things like IDE drives set to slave
but without a master on the same buss (you might like to redo the entire
install if this is the problem as random chunks might be missing from
/anything/).
