Sounds like a lot of fun, I have no intention of studying Linux (not yet
anyway) although since I
got it I cant stay away from it and my wife wants to know who the stranger is
on the computer
in the back room. I have no misconceptions on using Linux and know it would
take a long time
to learn the basics let alone anything else. BUT I am having fun.

Yes to all of the above, sick of windows and the many faults that come with
it and would love to
have a little bit of control over what goes on.

using red hat 6 going to KDE menus, internet, KPPP
I click on setup then device and select /dev/ttys1 which works in root
if the use lock file is ticked when I go to modem and query it I get the
message "sorry, cant create modem lock file" if i untick it I get "sorry,
cant open modem"

Tried that, also went to etc/ppp/options and removed the word lock

The only thing Im doing at the moment is trying to get my internet connection
to work in the
account so I can do a lot more reading and I can only do that in root at the
moment
