[plug] Messages that I have posted

This relates to messages that I have posted to the mailing list, and to
responses to those messages, that I have received.

I have today received two messages, that were addressed directly to me, and
which appear to have possibly been intended for the mailing list.

Matt, a while ago, stated that a difference between majordomo, which had
previously been used to administer the mail list, and smartlist, which is now
used, is that majordomo automatically changed the "Reply To" address from that
used by the poster of a message to the mailing list, to the mailing list email
address, whereas smartlist does not, leaving a predefined "Reply To" address
that has been set by a poster of a message to the mailing list, unchanged.

Due to a problem encountered a while ago with my emails, where replies to my
emails were bouncing, iinet advised me to set my "Reply To" address to specify
the name of their incoming mail server, as opposed to the name of their outgoing
mail server, to which the email application (Netscape) had defaulted. This, I
understand, resulted from a change to iinet's operation.

This solved the problem, and worked without problem, until the mailing list
application for the PLUG mailing list, was changed to smartlist, resulting in me
getting duplicate replies; one sent to me, and one sent to the mailing list.
Then, today, I received two replies, addressed directly to me, which, I believe,
may have been intended for the mailing list.

I have advised Matt of the problem with the preset "Reply To" address, and the
difference can be demonstrated by viewing the (normal) header on an email that I
have posted to the mailing list, and comparing it to the header of an email that
somone else has posted to the mailing list.

It might be worth mailing list subscribers checking the email address that is
set as the "To" address, in their replies to messages posted on the mailing
list, before sending them, as the replies may not be going where they intend the
replies to go.

I do not know whether this applies to other users of the mailing list, and I
believe that I am not the only iinet subscriber that uses the mailing list.

Of course, I could be completely wrong...
