Hello again,

After another day of learning Linux, I've come across a few
problems, including not being able to connect to the internet despite
following the steps in my book, the linux pocketbook 3rd edition, and
the PC World Linux MiniBook.
I'm using RH7.0 and a DirectCom 56K External modem (which worked
last year with my first attempt at learning Linux with RH6.0). All
the things I've tried I've tried as root, and I've tried before
tonight, too, with the same problems. I'm able to get my modem set up
properly. I can create the account for my ISP. When I click on
'debug' it dials up, and pppd starts. The problems begin when I try
using RH PPP Dialer. I select the account and click okay, then I get
an error box:

Failed to activate interface.

How do I fix this?
When I try kppp, it dials up, then immediately disconnects,
producing this log:

Feb 27 02:23:56 boxie pppd[7220]: pppd 2.3.11 started by root, uid 0
Feb 27 02:23:56 boxie pppd[7220]: Using interface ppp3

Feb 27 02:24:04 boxie pppd[7220]: Unsupported protocol 0x8207 received
Feb 27 02:24:05 boxie pppd[7220]: Peer is not authorized to use remote
address 203.55.228.6
Feb 27 02:24:05 boxie pppd[7220]: Connection terminated.
Feb 27 02:24:05 boxie pppd[7220]: Connect time 0.2 minutes.
Feb 27 02:24:05 boxie pppd[7220]: Sent 446 bytes, received 514 bytes.
Feb 27 02:24:05 boxie pppd[7220]: Exit.
(use the squares as carriage returns if this log displays oddly for
you).
How do I fix this problem as well?
As I've mentioned repeatedly, I'm still very very new to this,
and I'd like to be able to get online and start using the online
sources of help while I'm using Linux (I'm back to my windows
partition to send this).

TIA,

Ari
