You're preaching to the choir. ^_^
At home, I use partimage to backup/restore my Win98 partition (to keep it a
clean Games OS, till Wine makes it obsolete).
I'm just a Lecturer/Tutorer in the labs, and have little control over what
tools they use. It's their system (Ghost to create lab images, which can be
used to emergency repair a machine, as well as initial replication), not mine.
Actually, the bulk of the lab imaging is done by a mix of a Perl script I wrote
years ago, and an old PCRDist, under Win95, which they're *still* using. I set
it up when I did work there more permanently, before xenworks(sp?) or any of
that funky stuff came out.
And for my Linux partition on there, I make image updates using rsync off a
master image. ^_^
