Two of them are now solved.  Trial and error, mostly.  Just reporting
back in case it helps someone else.

The Netscape roaming profiles problem was because the LDAP entry for me
(ie. Jeremy Malcolm) contained a superfluous "o=top" in addition to the
"o=My Organisation".  I removed it and now all is working swimmingly.

The coda problem was solved by explicitly specifying the name of the
root filesystem in venus.conf, about which the comments in the conf file
say "only in very unusual cases does this need to be set".  Not sure
what the very unusual circumstances are, but it works so I'm not
complaining.

Third problem (the ISA -> PCMCIA adapter) I'm still working on...
