Well he is a windows lovin' tool there's no denying it but being an
ex-techie he does have some ability and I can verify programs like the
NIC setup tool ran flawlessly under the P3 but not at all under the
Duron.  My guess is much of his problems comes from legacy hardware like
an 8YO soundcard and a non-descript NIC that he got second-hand because
it was the only PCI NIC with BNC connectors he could find.

Well that's a given but it does say something if $pile_of_crud crashes
under processor A but not B, even if it is a problem with the actual
program.  All the more reason to make sure you only use OS's that you
have the source for I say but it's still an interesting problem.  I mean
I presume AMD have implemented the full i386 instruction set so it's
hard to think why some software would have a problem with it and others
not.
