Hi Darrell (for some reason I know your name, I think I might have
known you in my deep dark past)

	Anyhoo

Get a Duron 850. Its right in the sweet spot for price/performance

Get an Abit motherboard , cant remember the model but any
motherboard with the 2nd generation via KT chipset thingo (gee my memory is
getting bad) should be fine. With the Abit ones just unlock your processor
and use the bios to overclock to around 1 gig with no effort (using 133Mhz
FSB ofcourse)

Im trying to remember the motherboard and chipset, Ive got one at
home, Ill check it for you. DONT get an MSI KT7A Pro or anything similar.
Theyre crappolla cos they use the 1st generation via chipset and it sucks
ass. Get a duron, dont get an Athlon. the durons are better value for $$$
and better at overclocking.

Actually, just found an email. The Abit K7TA mboard. With or without
the RAID onbaord, but I prefer without since its not true hardware raid and
isnt supported by Linux. But anyway I reckon the mb rocks. And get plenty of
ram. Its cheap, and you can never have enough.

	Have fun.

	Subject:	[plug] upgrading to Duron

	Hi All

I finally have the cash to upgrade the home machine to a respectable

level. Maybe not Q3 level, but enough so that I don't fall asleep
waiting for the kernel to compile!

I want a Duron and motherboard as I have the rest ready to go. I'm
	looking for some advice on:
	1) What speed chip to buy. Of course higher is better, but I
remember
reading that there was an increase in FSB speed between two models.
Anyone know what I am talking about?
	2) What motherboard I should buy, but I should be asking which
chipset
	works best with Linux?
	3) Anyone had any problems/gotchas using AMD chips/chipsets?

	Hope someone can help.

	Regards

	Darrell
