[plug] NFS mounts over DSL

Does anyone have experience with NFS mounts over a DSL connection, say,
1500/256 on each end?

I have had advice that this is a bad idea, that is, that NFS is a very
chatty protocol, and that performance will be disappointing.

Any info, or war stories, much appreciated.
