Possible obvious one:

> /etec/resolve.conf has "nameserver 127.0.0.1" in it on the second line
under
> the search statement.

/etc/resolv.conf

.. without the trailing 'e'

if it's incorrectly named your bind will think it's not there and not know
where to resolve to.

Also, try putting your ISP's name server IP address as an additional
"nameserver" line under 127.0.0.1 - this way iof the primary lookup fails,
it will switch to the second (and third, if you have it).

If you don't know you're ISP's nameserver, try telstra's:
nameserver 139.130.4.4
