For those who haven't been following the LCA ramp-up progress, there is a
meeting at the UCC about that tonight. If you want to help with LCA2003, I
striongly suggest visiting the website (http://conf.linux.org.au/ or
http://www.linux.conf.au/ - at last) and joining the mailing list. There's
lots of organising going on as we type, and more willing hands are needed.
This is a BIG event for us - several hundred people from all over the world -
and we're going to need all the hands we can find.
Also, James is a very entertaining speaker, I'd recommend your attendance even
if you don't give two hoots about Debian, failover or LCA. (-:

As well as filling seats, the Committees of both PLUG and SLPWA will be
holding a joint meeting shortly to make sure that the interaction between the
two groups is as smooth and positive as possible.
For those not yet aware, SLPWA - the Society of Linux Professionals (WA) -
held its inaugural meeting and inaugural Committee meeting recently. One of
the objectives raised in both meetings was to feed resources PLUG's way,
including automatic PLUG Membership passed through from new SLPWA Members.
The two Committees will shortly be getting together to discuss how that
objective accords with PLUG's goals, and how best to realise the processes
involved, presuming that PLUG's Committee decides that such processes are
appropriate and beneficial for PLUG.
Now would be a good time for PLUG Members to bounce around any ideas on the
topic, with the aim of having PLUG's Committee as well-informed of your
opinions, hopes and fears as possible on their way in. SLPWA members (and
whatever other loiterers happened to be present) have already had a shot at
this at the IGM, but if they regard anything as unfinished, unexplored or
new, now would be a good time to raise those issues on the SLPWA `discussion'
list (to which a copy of this message is headed).
If you are not a PLUG member, tonight's meeting would be a good time to fix
that (-: hint for Tony: bring your cashbox :-). The opinions of paid-up PLUG
Members will necessarily carry more weight than Joe Public's, paid Membership
is very cheap, and you get a useful account on Spark, the Linux-touting
full-time-connected (fat pipe even) Sparc box which hosts PLUG's website and
lists. Your address at http://plug.linux.org.au/~yournamehere/ can become a
reality overnight!
Full disclosure: I am a PLUG Member and past President of Vice for PLUG, and
also a SLPWA Member and SLPWA ordinary Committee Member. I'd be happy to
throw more of my weight around (I have some to spare), but have not yet
organised the necessary regular doses of time.
Cheers; Leon
