[plug] Browsers compatable with 'non Linux ones'?

I'm starting to have good results with Konqueror out of CVS HEAD for KDE 3, it handles Comm Bank just fine except that it doesn't render their java applet banner advertisment (I'd call that a feature not a bug though. hehe) but Konqueror still seems to have a problem with my AMP Credit Union account but that is all one big ugly java applet so I'm not too surprised.

There is currently an effort going on to improve support for Net banking in Konqueror so hopefully the results keep on getting better.

On a general note though a lot of web desingers/developers whether knowingly or unknowlingly write web sites using code specific to MSIE which is well outside the standards, their customisations of JavaScript are the main culprits of this. Where as a general rule any linux based browser does it's best to stick to the standards and making changes so they can handle MSIE-centric code would be going against the standards.

With that in mind I think the best thing to do is to be pro-active and let sites know when they have a problem and provide example solutions. Plus try to find a different email address other than the usual webmaster at blah.com because I doubt they would pay any attention so try to goto a corporate type area and email some of the big wigs if they advertise their emails and maybe, just maybe one of them might care enough to initiate some changes.

Just my two cents...

Cheers!
Jason

Bill, you ask what kind of browser compatability -
I was chasing general M$IE compatibility as it seems many webpage creators
don't bother with broader compatability - Central TAFE 'require' a windoze
browser for people to do online courses (M$IE or Netscape, not even Opera,
and from memory it works better with M$IE). I think I got part way through
with Linux Mozilla but it wouldn't allow me to use their online e-mail
system. properly I was pretty disappointed to have got so close then bombed
out.... I am hoping there might be a Linux browser that had worked on
transparently mimicing M$IE.
