Subject: Plea for networking help for an N.P.O.

Hi folks,
My name is Bob Hunter. I am trying to set up a small computer network
for Environment House, in Eighth Avenue Maylands. The "network"at the moment,
is a "peer-to-peer" Microsoft Windows 9x workgroup of some 5 machines. I
intend to set up a Linux Server and to convert most of the rest to Linux
workstations running KDE or Knome under Linux. Most of the people are pretty
computer illiterate, and I have been training them in basic computing. Before
I got there they had no firewall or anti-virus software on their Windows
systems, so it took me a while to clean and recover some of their data for
them.

I am a fairly good Linux user, but I am not confident that I can set
up a secure and easy to use Linux system for these people without some help. I
am having some problems networking some of the Linux machines together. I also
need help with Samba so that we can network the windows machine. We may also
be getting an ADSL "modem" and I may need help with this too. At the moment
the Linux machines have Red Hat 7.2 on them, and a basic KDE GUI. Only one or
two of the machines are powerful ones. The workstation "earmaked " to be the
Linux server is a 1 GIG Hz Pentium with 256 MByte RAM and a 40 GigBytes Hard
drive and CDRW "burner".

As we are non-profit, we cannot afford to pay anyone. However, we will
supply the Linux guru with Pizza's drinks etc. If parts require to be
replaced, such as network cables or NICs that is OK. Perhaps if some funding
comes through, then we may be able to pay you. Otherwise, your help will
contribute to the productivity of people who are working to improve our
environment.

Ideally, we would like the helper to turn up on a weekend for a few
hours, as this is the only time when the PC's are not in use.

	Can someone help?

	Bob Hunter.
