[plug] sendmail & cucipop problem

I'm noticing a lot of errors in the /var/log/maillog.  When I questioned
the users I found they are not able to recieve any file attachment.
Can anyone let me know what the following is about:
Sep  1 02:11:42 gateway cucipop[14052]: Invalid command auth - -
Sep  1 02:24:20 gateway sendmail[14122]: NOQUEUE: gateway [127.0.0.1]
did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to stdin
Sep  1 02:26:48 gateway cucipop[14135]: Invalid command auth - -
Sep  1 02:41:53 gateway cucipop[17519]: Invalid command auth - -
Sep  1 02:47:40 gateway sendmail[17555]: g7VIlYJ17555:
