[plug] OpenOffice1.1beta startup problems

Howdy PLUG,

I know this isn't an OpenOffice.org help list .. but I'm firstly wondering if anyone else has seen this problem before I investigate beyond the point of convenience.  I'm suspecting a problem outside of OO, otherwise 1.1beta is a very dismal effort, which I highly doubt.

Just downloaded OO1.1beta and installed without incident.  When running any of the resulting binaries, they dont do anything .. they spike up the CPU usage for 1 second then die off and sit there for hours (if I leave them).

The CPU usage on the first process gradually dies down to 0.0 after about 20 minutes.  Nothing appears on the screen.

This is on my Vaio, running Debian (mixture of releases, hand-built XFree 4.3.0), PIV 2.0GHz 512MB.

Anyone seen this?  openooffice.org and google don't seem to want to tell me much about it.
