I can't help with the KDE bits, but have you checked the logs on the
samba _server_?  /var/log/samba/ or similar.

There will be a log for each host that has connected and you might find
some clues in there - locking problems, concurrent access, whatever it
may/might or may/might not be :)  There is also a generic log.nmbd and
log.smbd file.  Sounds like you've looked at a lot of things, but you
didn't mention these logs.
