Not having seen the board, I can't really tell. If there are heat
sinks, than an electrical insulator/thermal conductor can often be
attached by a clip to provide a direct path to the outer case.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have their own shutdown system.
You can get bi-metal contacts that open at about 85C, or thereabouts
and re-close at about 10C less.
