Thanks for the helpful replies and especially Cameron's link to the manual.

Looks good for my needs - okay, a tad slow but these are low-end users and
it won't be doing kernel compiles - so I'll chat with my son's school's
council (meeting tonight :-) ). The Price Is Right (tm) unless some parent
donates a previously-loved laptop (with good battery = inbuilt UPS)

As for a USB DSL modem, D-Link do the DSL-200 but with Windows-only
drivers. I've written to their tech support asking about future Linux
support. There's support for Alcatel now apparently native in kernel
2.4.22 according to http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/ I'll have to
hunt back through the PLUG archives to find out if people swear by (or at)
Alcatel. I know there has been some discussion here in the past. Also
need to research which ISP's work with Alcatel -- Tel$tra is a definite,
from memory.

I'll also keep in mind what people have been saying vis-a-vis the heat
discussion - a closed cupboard could be an unfriendly environment, heat-wise.

Cheers and thanks again,
Denis
