*lol* did that one when trying out 2.5 and reiser4 on my laptop. The 
same problem can be observed, by the way, by setting 
"console=/dev/ttyS0" on the kernel command line to redirect console 
output to a serial port. Great for figuring out why that box frezes up 
when X loads...
