Some of the thermaltake volcanos mentioned are 2 speed jobs that kick into 
high gear automatically when they need to work harder. Low speed noise 
specs look pretty good (17 dB at 1300 rpm), high speed is pretty ordinary 
(48 dB at 4800 rpm) but I hope that would not be a problem if they're 
efficient enough to cool properly at low speed.

Of course, but with the proliferation of USB  and firewire devices that are 
designed to be moved from machine to machine plus audio etc etc I think its 
a good thing (tm)
