If you had been talking about a Linux distribution, I would say use 
Mindi on whatever you're running. Mandrake 9.1 and later come with 
their own live-CD making script.

Trivial. Get a small Linux distro and write that into the "floppy" boot 
area of a CD, put the ISO image onto the CD as raw data (not a file), 
then have the boot script end with a "partimage -f 2 restore /dev/hda 
/dev/hdX" (you might have to parse dmesg to find out what X the CDROM 
is on if it isn't pre-determined, and you might want to do the same to 
make sure the boot drive is on hda if that ain't necessarily so).
