Having just had a look at LSB, it appears that RPM is a "package
format", not a "package management system" (whereas debs are used for
package management). You think BSDs are archaic (not sure why) but I
think that a lot of other people would say that RPM is clumsy. What is
being argued on this list seems to be differences between package
management.
