|You mean you tried it with your standard Telstra plugged in *with* a
|line filter between the phone and the line? :P
Of course :)
|When you unplugged everything, did you leave the filters plugged in or
|did you take them out as well?
Took them out too, also tried with them still in. Trying to cover every
possible aspect.

|Plugged their modem in.. for how long? You did say that the loss of line
|synch happens after a few hours. Did they run the test long enough to
|reproduce the problem?
This is Telstra we're talking about, they run their standard test and no
matter how much you tell them its wrong, they just don't listen.

|A loss of sync indicates a problem with the DSLAM, your line (inside or
|outside) or your modem. DSLAMs typically have "shelves" with "cards".
|Alcatel DSLAM cards, just for instance, have a capacity of four
|connections each. If the card goes bad, at most four customers are
|effected. The point being that sync loss outages can be very isolated.
|Unlike network outages that tend to effect large numbers of users. Sync
|outages are a telco problem, not an ISP problem. If your service
|agreement is with the ISP, you will need to contact them, who will in
|turn contact the telco.
Already done, iiNet have contacted Telstra to report a line fault (for the
3rd time!)

|If no sync on the above test, either the line was not readied, the modem is
defective, or the DSLAM is down.
Well, strange thing is.. as soon as I pickup the handset on a telephone, the
ADSL will kick in.. as soon as its hung up, the ADSL drops out again.

|If using a surge protector, try it without the surge protector. Some may
interfere with the DSL signal.
AFAIK, when our house was built all the electricity (internal cables etc.)
were surge protected, thats just the way houses are built.. I don't think
there is any way I can change that.

|Don't give up, dude. :)
I've contacted Telstra again.. just waiting on a call back, going to make
the tech stay here for a minimum of 24 hours, to prove that its not my
equipment. You can't tell me that its pure 'bad luck' that the DLink DSL300+
and the Billion BIPAC711CE that I bought are both defective? Highly
unlikely. Strange thing was, Telstra was saying "maybe its your PC setup
thats intefering". Strange, that is considering the Billion for example
doesn't even need to be connected to a PC to work, and when all my PCs are
off the Billion still can't gain line sync.

Cheers,
Daniel
