[plug] USB disappeared under 2.6

A little while ago, I had a USB camera hooked up to a computer
running a 2.6 kernel under SuSE 9.1 and it worked out of the box.

Now the system is failing to recognize any plugged-in USB devices at
all. There've been a number of changes in the interim...
significantly (afaict) kernel version incremented from 2.6.4 to
2.6.5 "automagically" through SuSE's online patch system.

I've also changed the boot parameters to try some different
elevators for the "standard" but reverting doesn't make the USB come
good again.

Chipset is nVidia nforce on an ASUS A7N8X-VM mainboard... which
could well be the problem.

I've probably Googled too much on the problem so far to come up with
a solution.

Anything else I can try?
