[plug] FTP problems not sure where to look.

I think it was established that there are no lines starting with "eth0"
in Laurie's dmesg. So, it is possible that the driver is not being
loaded. I advised that this was out of my area. Laurie: what machine has
this problem? (Eg. what motherboard / network cards -- maybe Google has
some information about your network interface? Have you ever had a
working Ethernet interface with Linux on that computer -- maybe someone
remembers something from back them? Maybe a Knoppix CD could help? Just
stabbing in the dark!) Also, I'm not sure if you ever showed the
contents of /etc/network/interfaces -- is it nearly identical to the
configuration that works in your other computer?

By the way, ucc.gu.uwa.au is not a valid domain (not that it has
anything to do with your immediate problem).
