Find a copy of lineox or whitebox linux.
It's got the RedHat Enterprises source rpms recompiled back into a distro.
They have Samba3+ACLs & Ext3+ACLs & stape (ACL aware backup)
Have a look there, as it may provide more insight into the way everything
fits together.
