In the guise of Computer Angels, been there and done that. Don't.
Telstra don't seem to properly evaluate the line until you actually
apply - we had a neighbour's line tested and it came back OK. It later
developed that the entire building was on loading coils, and ADSL could
never have worked.

So ... I'd instead find out if one of your neighbours-to-be _has_ ADSL
or has had an application approved.

There's also a fairly strong chance that Telstra will decide to be
morons about it.
