By the way, the PLUG website runs off an Xbox (the mailing list is
served on a different machine: an old HyperSPARC clone). Other people
know much more about all this than I do.

Google seems to have been serving the general public well. I have now
added a Google search to the "listinfo" pages, so that it's more
visible: http://mail.plug.linux.org.au/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/plug
Not sure if this can be done for the Pipermail pages, too:
http://mail.plug.linux.org.au/pipermail/plug/
Note: the Google form only works because I have implemented a workaround
for a Mailman bug -- may cease to work at an arbitrary time in future.
