It's worth noting, though, that modprobe.conf and modprobe.d (though I
think the latter may be Debian-specific) won't convince modprobe to
load particular modules on boot.  They just provide ways of telling
module-init-tools to load one module when asked to load a different
one, or providing options to modules being loaded.

The file modprobe.preload that someone else mentioned sounds like it
might be a closer equivalent to Debian's /etc/modules.
