[plug] gnome doesnt like hostname changes?

Hi, I have a laptop that I move around various networks, some dhcp and
some not.  For various reasons, I ve decided to move from a fixed
(non-resolvable) hostname to taking the designated hostname from either
DHCP or a static allocation for the particular network I am plugged into

However gnome is objecting and stops until the hostname lookup times
out, or I reset the hostname back to the same one when I loged into
gnome.

I dont want to exit gnome and all the apps I have running just because I
have changed hostnames/networks but I cant find a way to tell gnome the
new hostname.

Any ideas on how to do this, or a workaround?
