A 486 is too old for a newbie to setup.  I don't think Mandrake has
486 binaries, and the minimum ram specs would still at least be around
64MB.  This is a job for a linux pro and/or someone to assist Mary
with hardware of a newer model than a 486. :)  If the 486 has 64MB or
more of RAM, I would be surprised.

I think Microsoft ended support for 486 machines ages ago, so it's no
big deal.
One MS virus and that machine would be useless.  A linux expert in
small machines is required and could turn the 486 into the PLUG IRC
server? :)
