As I understand it, its not the kernal that recognises the card, but
the startup scripts of your distro that must load the modules.
   The distros I tried did not probe for DVB cards.  Maybe because they
are american, and the yanks don't use DVB.
   Could it be that yours has just loaded the modules needed for analog?
Then as I said, you need to load more modules. Have you found a list of
the modules needed for your card? Or tried the insmod.sh script? (loads all)

You still need the drivers loaded first. Does your OS report a DVB card 
configured? Or does it just see the analog bits?
