Why guess? Try doing a few controlled tests after hours if you can, and 
use Ethereal to monitor what's happening from both servers' points of 
view (or, if you have a decent quality managed switch, clone all traffic 
to your laptop and capture it that way).

If you compare the times that things actually happen on the workstation 
to events in the packet traces, keep an eye out for something that seems 
to be timing out / retransmitting repeatedly, etc, you might locate the 
problem.
