Which window managers cope with this?

I ran a dual-head setup with a 1280x1024 LCD and a 1024x768 CRT.
I could never quite convince gnome (metacity?) or KDE to not place
small windows such as dialogs in the "free" space at the bottom of
my 1024x768 viewport.

Has anyone had similar problems?
