I agree with Matt on this one, my email host runs IMAP, and I have my
desktop machine and laptop machine both pointing at the one mailbox.
Its great, since all emails sent from desktop are accessible on laptop
as well ( and visa versa ) since all of the email is stored on the server.
Also, you can setup your mail client ( I use thunderbird ) to download
and keep a local copy of the message on your computer as well - I would
recommend doing this, since if you have no internet connection at the
time you want to view your emails, you will unlikely be unable to read
your messages ( because generally only the headers of emails are stored
on your computer ), that goes for old messages unless of course you have
this feature setup.
And again, like Matt suggested, check that the version of IMAP you will
be using is good to go ( eg. Once I had a IMAP setup that would not
allow subfolders of folders !! Inbox->Lists->Plug , would only allow
Inbox->Lists )
