Do you have access to the other convertor?
Do you know whether the other end is full- or half-duplex?
Does a different computer at this end fix the issue?
This kind of thing can happen when your eth card detects half-duplex
from the convertor at this end, except the two convertors are talking at
full-duplex. D-link fibre convertors are a common culprit for newcomers,
and it's easy support money to fix issues with these fibre links :P
