Yes, you are overdriving the smaller monitor - probably too much colour
depth and screen resolution.  Peter's suggestion is a good start, but
not if you can't see anything to edit the file!! :-) So, let's assume
that you haven't tried this manual way yet because you can't see
anything on the monitor. You need to boot the server with a live distro
of choice to mount and edit your files.  Once you have done that and can
see the 'inards' of your "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" config file you can follow
a guide like Peter's to edit and include the monitor parameters
suggested.

Now, it's highly likely that the X parameters are not optimum for your
monitor, so reboot your server with its own OS. If you boot to a console
without X you can still configure X on a suse system by running "sax2"
as superuser from the console for your X configuration. If you do boot
to X then run sax through yast to set X, of course ;-)
