In general, there are some good reasons to build from source. You can
get the options you want, not what someone else decides. It can be a
lot stabler than binary installs (especially general builds like this
one), especially if you have other source built packages installed. You
can patch/modify the code before building if needed.
On the downside, you need to know what you are doing, get it wrong
