Thanx 4 the prompt advice.

Did not find ID # @ wiki.ubuntu...hardware/3G but, it appears a Bandrich 
HSDPA C100S USB device works "from the box" - save some bickies for one 
and try it out is another option.

Downloaded "mint" as per sage advice but not installed yet.

Read up on + downloaded Wvdial but, not installed yet.
